What a great event last month at Bannockburn Green! An incredible mix of cars turned out for a sunny event with clear skies despite the typical SCS forecast of “scattered storms”. Special thanks to Midwest Motors, Inc. for sponsoring the event, Adam from WOT Films for documenting it, and the UIC Formula SAE Team for bringing their car out!
When Dr. Beasley’s needed someone to paint custom miniature hoods with complicated matte paint for use in their booth at SEMA, they turned to the team at Autowerks, our long-time Sponsor. Here’s a behind the scenes look at the process! Also, the Dr. Beasley’s team will be live-blogging from the SEMA show this week! Comment below or on the Dr. Beasley’s Blog with what you want to see and they’ll do their best to find and post it for you!
Many of you who registered for and attended the September Supercar Saturdays event sponsored by Dr. Beasley’s took advantage of two opportunities to win over $400 of Dr. Beasley’s products specifically chosen for your vehicle. There was a bit of a snag in the process as a couple people who were chosen as winners didn’t reply back to us! The SCS team continued to go down the list and the winners have finally been officially determined. Congratulations to Dan P and Steve M! Always register for SCS events for a chance to win other cool prizes!
Edit: RSVP Extended to Noon on Friday 8/31 – More Opportunity to Win!
We’re looking forward to our last scheduled Supercar Saturdays event of the 2012 Season taking place this coming Saturday, September 1st, at The Promenade Bolingbrook. We’re so excited in fact that we’ve teamed up with Dr. Beasley’s, our generous September event sponsor, to give away some serious prizes to SCS registrants and attendees.
Back in 2004, Jim Lafeber and his wife Nikki started Simon’s Shine Shop. As a car enthusiast and perfectionist, Jim was dissatisfied with carwashes and decided to take action. I have never seen an operation like Jim’s. Water is dispensed from ceiling-mounted hose reels. To avoid the dreaded bucket system and reusing dirty water, Jim custom engineered a second ceiling-mounted hose system to dispense foam. So what about wash mitts? Each wash station has a plastic 55-gallon drum full of clean ones and there are more washing machines than I’ve seen in some laundromats to handle the used ones. I can go on and on about how impressed I am with Jim’s carwash creation (find me at the event and I will) but that’s not what we’re talking about today.
As you can tell, Jim is a problem solver. Where most people accept imperfection, Jim and his team at Dr. Beasley’s consider it a welcome challenge, developing a prescription to treat every car care ailment. When Jim received feedback from a Simon’s Shine Shop customer that the high-end leather products he was using did a great job of cleaning and conditioning the leather in his German cars but left behind an undesirable shine, Jim began looking for a new solution. After trying a plethora of products to no avail, Jim set up a laboratory and went to work; Dr. Beasley’s was born. Since then Dr. Beasley’s has overcome a plethora of problems ranging from creating a car wash soap that doesn’t leave your hands dry to developing a complex system to wash and care for matte paint. That’s right, the same paint that some manufacturers can’t tell you how to wash or maintain. Jim’s matte paint system is so good in fact that a major manufacturer is going to include a bag of Dr. Beasley’s Matte Paint Prescription in every matte car they sell beginning in the 2013 model year.
What You Can Win
Dr. Beasley’s is giving away two custom detail kits outfitted with Dr. Beasley’s products personally selected to meet the specific needs of YOUR car. Not the do it yourself type? Dr. Beasley’s is willing to trade the winners a detail of comparable value at Simon’s Shine Shop instead. Simply drop your car off and let the professionals do the rest! You win, you choose, it’s that simple!

I know what you’re thinking, how can I register to win?
Well, that’s exactly it actually, you had to register for SCS events this season in order to win!
- It lets us know who’s coming and how many
- It lets us inform people in the event anything changes
- It lets us give stuff away.
Despite that, we’ve read many posts on forums where people have told others there is no point and not to register. Registration helps us, the people who volunteer to run SCS to produce the best event possible for everyone to enjoy.
To show our appreciation to those who register for Supercar Saturdays events, Supercar Saturdays is giving away 2 free track days to Hooked on Driving events. We randomly chose two winners: the first was chosen from a list of everyone who has registered for an event this season and the second winner from a list of people who registered for the August SCS event.
Congratulations to Gary F (’66 Chevelle) and Stuart S (’05 G35) on winning a FREE Hooked on Driving Track Day to be used any time in the next year courtesy of all of us at Supercar Saturdays!
Additionally, those of you who stopped by the Hooked on Driving Tent at the August event and registered for their email list were entered to win a free track day courtesy of Hooked on Driving. Congratulations to Lee L and thanks to everyone who took the time to speak with and support our event sponsor!
Supercar Saturdays is proud to announce our partnership with Chicago Motor Cars as our July 2012 sponsor. While many of you may be familiar with Parin Shah and his team at CMC, I wanted to take a couple of minutes to introduce the rest of you to the services they offer.
I had always loved the Audi A5 since I first drove a 6-speed example back in 2008. A few months ago I came across a great buy on a beautiful 2010 Audi S5 automatic and bought it. I drove the car for a couple of weeks and decided that it just wasn’t for me; the combination of the engine, weight, and slushbox meant that I needed to find it a new home. As they say in the car business “you can’t pay too little for the wrong car”.
I’ve sold more cars than I can count so I took photos, put it on eBay and a few other sites, and watched as the car didn’t meet my reserve. I sent out a couple of second chance offers and sat horrified as people declined. I have no idea why, it was the right color with the right options at an aggressive price. I thought about taking it to Carmax but every single time I’ve taken a car there (probably 4-5 times) I end up with an offer of 50-75% of the value of the car, it’s an aggravating waste of time.
Around this same time, a good friend of mine owned a specialty Porsche that he was listing for sale through a consignment agreement with Parin. My friend suggested that I come with him and have Parin take a look at my S5. Parin had his buyer Phil take a look at the car and made me an offer on the spot. Long story short, I ended up selling the car to Parin for the same price I was hoping to get from a private party and Parin unbelievably managed to sell the car the next day, talk about a win-win!
Back to my friend with the Porsche, he dropped it off with Parin who made recommendations on how to go about listing this special car along with presenting its modifications in a tasteful and beneficial way. There was an open dialogue and when they agreed on how to list the car, Parin took the photos and listed it for sale. Chicago Motor Cars sold his car within a matter of weeks for the price my friend had been hoping for.
The team at Chicago Motor Cars is currently working to find me my next car and I’m looking forward to my next transaction with them. Whether you’re looking to buy, sell, trade, or just happen to be in the neighborhood it’s worth stopping by to meet the team and take a look at the incredible cars they have on display, unlike at SCS, they’re all for sale!
